1. We know you’ve all been practically convulsing with anticipation about this one, so we’re extremely, extremely, extremely pleased to announce that Grooveshark has released two quick updates to our Android application. We released one version of the app that fixed a few people’s bugs early in the week, then took the feedback we received and created another fix that should resolve the rest of the issues!

If you’ve got the app, it will ask you to update; if you don’t, point your smartyphone’s browser at m.grooveshark.com and start your free trial today!

    Heeeeeeeere’s Changelog:

First, please be sure to have a few megabytes of space available on your SD card before installing this update, as your offline songs and player cache will be migrated to these new directories on first run.

    • We’ve released a revamped player which fixes many playback issues, including all those danged problems you’ve been having on your HD Desire, G2X, Atrix, and other fancy new phones.
    • Player seeking is now supported — you can drag your scrubber around to different points of the song you’re listening to!
    • Fixed crashes on small screen sizes. Your Citrus and other tiny-screened phones should now work like a dream!
    • Added support for Simple Last.fm Scrobbler — this version won’t spam your notifications, it caches offlined scrobbles, and works on phones the old scrobbler didn’t work on.
    • When using Simple Last.fm Scrobbler, favoriting a song syncs the song with your list of Last.fm loved songs
    • Added support for BugSense, a tool that allows us to better monitor app crashes and make quick fixes to problems!
    • Added the option to automatically download app updates - you can toggle it on your Settings menu.
    • Offline songs and player cache are written to Android-managed directories, and are removed on uninstall.

We’re working around the clock over here at the shark tank to ensure that our lovely listeners can take their music on the go, so we hope you find this new update helpful!

  2. Wednesday brings new and exciting changes to Grooveshark

This week we’ve been trying to focus on three issues: Search, Surveys, and Widgets. Here’s a brief overview of what we did:

    • We improved our search algorithm and added A/B testing — which means you’ll be helping us improve our search feature based on what decisions you make on the search results page.

    • We fixed the issue that prevented you from doing surveys from a Facebook or Google-linked account.

    • For security buffs – we’ve made it so your password can now be up to 32 characters.

    • You can create and customize your widget inside Grooveshark. Select multiple songs and right click to widgetify them, or widgetize a whole playlist by clicking on the playlist and then the Share Playlist button. Check it out:

And, for our Plus and Anywhere Subscribers, we’ve created VIDEO MODE! Now all you aspiring VJs have the tools to rock the party. Activate Video Mode by first adding some music to your queue, then selecting Enable Video Mode in the More Options menu, located above the queue on the right side of the interface:

Create awesome video playlists with ease. Full screen it, high def it, spin yourself a full set. Enjoy!

Like the new changes? Having a new issue? Please let us know on Facebook or Twitter!

  3. Good Afternoon Sharks!

RC16 is coming out tomorrow, and should include a fix to everyone’s widget woes (in which you cannot export a playlist via widget on the site). If you’re dying for widgets, you can always build them on our Widget Site!

We’re happy to announce that we’re continuing our donation campaign with Pandas International The shirts will be back in stock soon! For more great deals, check out our Merch Store!

We were at @LessConf this weekend, meeting the Southeast’s best and brightest and having ourselves a time in Hotlanta. We gave our new friend @JasonKoertge some swag, and he passed it along to his adorable son! Look at that lil’ Grooveshark!

Want to share a picture of yourself in Grooveshark Swag? We’ll feature you on the blog! Send us pics to pics@grooveshark.com, or holler at us on Facebook and Twitter!

  4. We’d like to take the opportunity to tell you about a lovely utility called Groovylists on this, the most appropriate of days.

Groovylists is a fairly simple concept. You’ve got playlists in other services, like Spotify, Last.FM, or iTunes. You want to import that playlist over to Grooveshark to take it with you wherever you go! Groovylists makes it extremely easy to do so. Want to see it in action?

Try it out today! Tell all your friends!

The Desktop App is working again! We broke it pretty hard when we were updating the site for RC13, but our lovely developer, Katy, fixed it up right last night. Thanks to everyone who kept us updated on the issue, we appreciate the input so so much!

Oh, but then I tripped over the Last.FM Scrobbler that we keep in most inconvenient place in the middle of the office. So now that’s broken — but don’t worry, we’re on it. It should be fixed by Wednesday morning, after we test to make sure the fix won’t break anything else!

One of the most common requests we get from Mac users is a way to make the native media keys work for Grooveshark. Well, we haven’t quite mastered that art yet, but we found an app that does! It’s called Factotum and it’s available here for a coupla bucks.

How’s your day going? What are you listening to this afternoon? Holler at us on Twitter or Facebook, we’d love to talk music.

  5. Happy Hump Day, everyone! Our web team has been working their butts off trying to make Grooveshark the best site on the whole internets. Here’s what they achieved this week!

    IE-Related Fixes:

    • The ‘Cancel Subscription’ button works in IE7
    • IE8 runs in IE8 mode, which should increase performance significantly — like, playback should no longer stutter when you do intensive things like load big lists.

    Site Stuff:

    • Search results are improved!
    • Changing your queue size with music in the queue won’t lock the site up.
    • Fixed the issue where stations and playlists would sometimes display all jumbled up in the sidebar.
    • The theme selector is now organized by category.
    • Search results are improved!
    • Artist page popularity sorting is fixed!
    • Playing an album from the site skin should always play in track order. WHOO!

Oh, yeah, and the most awesome announcement of the day: We’re happy to announce that we’ve partnered up with Clearvoice Surveys to offer Grooveshark Surveys

You may see a lil’ notification that informs you of the new program, but if you don’t, check out the Surveys option in your User Menu (you may need a magnifying glass to see it in this picture, haha).

The Surveys page is currently offering the initial Profile Survey, which determines your eligibility for future surveys. New surveys will be released intermittently, and you’ll receive an e-mail informing you about their release. Once you take that first survey, you’ll be sent an e-mail asking for you to authorize your account. You’ll need to do that in order to receive any additional surveys going forward. When you finish a survey, you’ll earn points that you can collect and redeem for free months of Grooveshark Plus or Grooveshark Anywhere! So check it out.

If you have any questions, comments, concerns, or top 10 lists you’d like to share with us, drop us a line on the Twitter or Facebook. Rebekah and myself will be happy to say heyyyyy.
