1. Most of New York’s subway systems are going wireless, which is amazing because it means I can stream music while I commute. And what has made this development even better is Grooveshark’s new easier, mobile-sharing functionality that let’s me share the music I’m streaming, directly from my phone.

    image

Just click the song’s share button, copy the link & send to a friend. Voila!

Many of us are hyper-connected these days to our mobile devices and our networks. Music itself is an entirely social entity – for me at least. Most songs in my playlists have a very specific person, mood or scenario associated with them. Streaming and sharing can keep memories alive and loved ones close, making this feature that much more important.

What makes you want to share music? Do you have any songs in particular that really bring you back?

  2. It’s freezing pretty much everywhere in the country right now, but as we all know, music can warm the soul.

There are already 250+ music moods to choose from on Grooveshark, and now we’re [world] widening the main genres list, with the following popular picks from our international userbase:

    • Bachata (Dominican Republic): Afro Latin romantic music that has inspired a dance by the same name.
    • Cumbia (Colombia): Colombian folk dance and genre of dance music, called the “music backbone of Latin America” by NPR.
    • K-pop (South Korea): Comprised by genres of “Korean pop” and characterized by a wide variety of audiovisual elements.
    • Samba (Brazil): Brazilian dance and musical genre that uses a 2/4 time signature and is derived from African and European roots.

Although the most traffic is coming from the above genres’ respective countries, we think that everyone can use a little culture in their playlist collections, so stream & save away!

    Now for some K-pop.

  4. Have you ever had to run to class or work and missed your favorite Broadcaster in action? Or wanted to check out a new Broadcaster but thought you should first review their track record before committing to the cause? Or, you are a Broadcaster and your guests are asking you about sets/songs you played weeks ago and it just all gets lost in the musical madness that you have to juggle as a digital streaming superstar?

Well, have no fear because Archived Broadcasts are officially here.

It’s like the glorious DVR invention, but for your Broadcast music library. Just add an “s” on the end of the Broadcaster’s URL (so http://grooveshark.com/#!/les.voyageurs/broadcast becomes http://grooveshark.com/#!/les.voyageurs/broadcasts) and you can choose the event and the Broadcast date, organized by genre and title from the options available. Screenshot example for us visual learners, below:

And if you’re a Broadcaster yourself and feel like you had an off day? (How embarrassing that you played a song 2x in a row, no one can ever know!) You can easily delete anything from the past. Sort of like when you realize you don’t realllly need every episode of RHOBH recorded, just the past, say, seven.

Hopefully this little tool will give you hours of listening pleasure and/or will act as a great resource for music discovery.

Questions/comments/concerns/praise? We want to hear it!

  9. Grooveshark Co-founders make Forbes’ “30 Under 30” List, 3 Years Running
Each year, Forbes compiles a list of the brightest stars in 15 different fields under the age of 30. Grooveshark’s co-founders Sam Tarantino and Josh Greenberg were on this year’s list for the Music category, amongst other industry heavy-hitters such as Rihanna, Lady Gaga and Kendrick Lamar.
From Forbes: “This is the time to be young and ambitious. Never before has youth been such an advantage. These founders and funders, brand builders and do-gooders aren’t waiting for a proper bump up the career ladder. Their goals are way bigger — and perfectly suited to the dynamic, entrepreneurial, and impatient digital world they grew up in.”

Tarantino and Greenberg were also included on the list in 2011 and 2012.
